Gooseneck condenser microphone tailored for drums / percussion

The Shure PGA98D is a medium impedance (850 Ω) small diaphragm electret condenser microphone with cardioid pickup pattern. Its designed for recording attack-emphasized instruments such as toms, snares, cymbals, hi-hats, percussion etc.

Its equally great for recording in a studio as well as for live performances.

The mic comes with a gooseneck form factor that makes it very flexible for quick and easy positioning. This is useful for mounting on toms/snares and its also small enough to avoid hitting.

The naming of the variants of this microphone might be confusing, namely the 98H and 98D.

Actually both the PGA98D and PGA98H are exactly the same in terms of frequency response/tonal character and technology. The only difference is in the mount design. The 98D is molded with a drum mount while the 98H comes integrated with a horn clamp mount.

On the downside, it requires some extra gain than you are normally used to.
