Multipurpose bass microphone with weird response curve
The AKG Perception 2 (P2) is an entry-level dynamic bass microphone designed for use in live environments. The mic comes with a high performance capsule that’s able to withstand extreme pressure levels (~157dB), coupled with a hum-compensating coil for tackling EMC noises to produce a clean sound.
The AKG P2 is well-suited for recording “high-energy low-end” or bass instruments, yet also versatile for recording horns and woodwinds. Designed for live use, it comes with a side-address cardioid polar pattern with excellent feedback and crosstalk rejection coming from other instruments behind the microphone.
Coming to its tonal character, this microphone comes with a wide bass response with its frequency bandwidth ranging between 20Hz – 16kHz. The response curve looks weird, but the mids are carefully adjusted to prevent any boxy sounds while the highs have a gain that’s useful for capturing clear attack and subtle details/air.
About the build, the Perception 2 comes with a durable, all-metal housing with an integrated stand adapter. In the box, you’ll also get a carrying case for easy transport and storage.
