A colored vocal microphone with super-cardiod pickup

The AKG D7 is an entry-level reference dynamic vocal microphone with super-cardioid polar pattern. It comes with the patented dual-layer varimotion diaphragm which creates the subtle and open sound like a condenser with the powerful resonance of a dynamic.

It’s primarily designed for stage/live setup and suited for lead/backing vocals.

However, being a supercardioid, a slight off-axis alignment from the vocalist could drastically change the tonal character. This feature is useful when there is a need of absolute noise and cross talk isolation but a careful miking technique is necessary.

The mic comes equipped with a mechano-pneumatic capsule suspension with a combination of an integrated high-pass filter that’s effective in eliminating any handling noise.

With the permanent high pass filter upto 140Hz, the AKG D7 has a narrow low-end (sub-bass) and its effective frequency response ranges between 70Hz – 20kHz. The response curve is tailored for vocals as there is a significant boost in bass, presence and brightness regions.

Overall, the AKG D7 is a colored mic with warm tone that can be flattering for vocals and would suit well for people with natural or thin voices.
